Football pitch construction: pitch board and ball-stop system
The Hungarian Football Federation (MLSZ) has built several hundred artificial grass pitches for municipalities, schools and clubs since 2011 under its national pitch construction programme. In football pitch construction the perimeter boards and the ball-stop netting behind the goal lines are part of the technical content for several pitch types. IFS Ltd. supplies a complete, TÜV-certified pitch board and ball-stop system for this purpose, used so far in the construction of more than 350 artificial grass football pitches in Hungary within the MLSZ pitch construction programme.
Board and ball-stop system for each pitch type
| Pitch type | Size | Typical configuration |

What the IFS pitch package contains
- White boards: 1100×2500×18 mm birch plywood with UV-resistant melamine coating and aluminium top profile.
- Fixed-installation posts: hot-dip galvanised board, net and bracing posts set in concrete.
- Ball-stop net: UV-resistant net with 5 mm twine and 130×130 mm mesh, or 4 mm twine and 120×120 mm mesh, threaded with PVC-coated tensioning wire.
- Fasteners, wire tensioners, top profiles and installation instructions for the contractor.
Pitch construction and renovation
Not only for new pitches: on many artificial grass pitches built 10–15 years ago the boards and ball-stop nets are now due for replacement. The elements of the board system can be ordered separately, and existing posts set in concrete can be raised with the BX extension system so that the pitch can be fitted with ball-stop netting.
Frequently asked questions
How high are the boards? The standard board panel is 1.1 m high; each panel is carried by 3 posts and fixed with countersunk screws.
How high should the ball-stop net be? Pitch construction specifications usually call for a 5 m high net behind the goal lines. Our 6 m net posts are set 1 m deep in concrete, giving a 5 m high net wall.
Who carries out the installation? We manufacture and supply the system; installation is carried out by the pitch contractor using the technical installation manual we provide.
